my credentials and approach
I am a licensed psychologist (NC license #2444). I received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1996. I completed an internship and postdoctoral work at Duke University Medical Center. I was trained in the Family Studies Program at Duke, where I consulted as a part-time faculty supervisor for several years. I have been in private practice since 1999. I regularly attend workshops, seminars, etc. to obtain continuing education as required by my licensing board.
My approach incorporates cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness training, and discovery of underlying beliefs that shape behavior. My goal is to help you better understand yourself and your loved ones and give you new tools to solve your problems. After the first session I will provide you with feedback and a suggested plan for working together. I will collaborate with you in setting goals and track your progress in therapy. At times I will give you "homework" which is designed to help you practice new skills or integrate new awareness between sessions. I will also seek your feedback about therapy sessions, and we will make adjustments as necessary to ensure that you are getting the most out of your sessions.
